Kansas has been shaped by many groups of people! Vaqueros were herding cattle on the Mexican plains long before cowboys drove herds to the Kansas stockyards. Learn the roots and practices of the skills of the modern cowboy. Examine how the forced resettlement of the Potawatomi from the Great Lakes Region demanded they adapt to life on the Plains. Explore how a formerly enslaved Olathe resident served in the Kansas Colored Infantry during the Civil War and the role he played as a drummer boy.
